New Delhi: Electronic product maker Samsung has started manufacturing smartwatches at its Noida plant in India. The company said on Thursday that this was part of its "Make in India" efforts. South Korean company Samsung has also launched an aluminum edition of a new 4G smartwatch 'Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G'. It is manufactured in the country. It is priced at Rs 28,490. This will be available for sale online from July 11th.


Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice President (Mobile Business), Samsung India, said in a statement that the company's 'Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G' is the cheapest 4G smartwatch. This is the first smartwatch to be made in the country. With 'Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G', it has started making a total of 18 smartwatches in India under the 'Make in India' program.

How much has been invested
However, the company did not disclose the annual capacity of the smartwatch and the investment made on it. In June 2017, the company announced that it would invest Rs 4,915 crore to increase refrigerator and smartphone production capacity in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.  The company plans to double the Noida plant handset production capacity to 120 million handsets per year by the end of 2020. According to the statement, the 'Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G' will be available in dial diameters of 42 mm, 44 mm and 46 mm diameter. The company's 18 smartwatches range in price from Rs 19,900 to Rs 35,990.
