The government has increased maternity expenses from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500 under the ESIC Health Insurance Scheme. Maternity costs or benefits are those that are paid to an insured woman or an insured man under the ESIC Health Insurance Scheme in case of birth of a child for his wife.
What does the rule say?
The government has changed the Rule 56A of the Employees State Insurance (Central) Rules 1950 from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500. This benefit is available in case the delivery takes place where the required medical facilities are not available under the ESI scheme. Maternity costs are limited to 2 deliveries only.
Contribution to ESIC?
ESIC has contributions from both the employee and the employer. At present, 0.75 per cent of the employee's salary is contributed to ESIC and 3.25 per cent from the employer. Employees with an average daily wage of Rs 137 do not have to contribute.
Who benefits?
ESIC benefits will be available to employees with a monthly income of Rs 21,000 or less. However, in case of disability, the income limit is Rs. 25000.
