How to file a revised return
1. First log on to the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home.
2. Login to the e-filing portal with your page number, password, and captcha code.
3. Click on the 'E-File' menu and then click on 'Income Tax Return'.
4. Your page number will be filled in on the 'Income Tax Return' page
5. Now select the assessment year and ITR form number.
6. Now go to 'Filing Type' and select the Original / Revised option.
7. Then click on 'Prepare and Submit Online' in submission mode.
8. Under the General Information tab, in the online ITR form, select 'Revised Return under Section 139 (5) in' Return Filing Section 'and' Revised in Return Filing Type '.
9. Now select the acknowledgment number registered in the original ITR and the date of filing the ITR.
10. Now fill in the relevant information and then correct it and submit it to ITR.
Verify the return
When you file a revised return, verify it as needed. The easiest way is by support. You have to click on 'Generate Support OTP'. OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Fill out this OTP. As soon as you fill it out, the acknowledgment will come on your email id.
How often can you file a revised return?
You should know that the revised return can be filed before the end of the assessment year. Assume that if you file a return for the financial year 2019-20, you will be able to correct your mistake by March 31, 2021. In the meantime, you can file a revised return as many times as you like.
How mistakes can be corrected
Under Section 154 (1) of the Income Tax Act, if you have made a mistake in the ITR that is clearly visible, you can correct it. What could be this error.
