Hackers steal user data from grocery company Big Basket, claim to have sold for Rs 30 lakh on Dark Web
Cyber intelligence company Cyble identified data theft in routine web monitoring

Once again, the data of online users has been leaked. This time the data of 20 million users of grocery e-commerce platform Big Basket has been leaked. According to cyber intelligence firm Cyble, the hackers sold the data on the Dark Web for about 40 40,000 (approximately Rs 29.5 lakh).
The company has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell in Bengaluru after the data was leaked. Cyble wrote in the blog that our research team has identified Big Basket data leaks in routine monitoring. This database is about 15GB, with data of about 20 million users.
The leaked data also includes a password
According to Cyble, the leaked data also includes the user's e-mail ID, password, mobile number, address, date of birth, location and login IP address. Cyble refers to the password in the data i.e. OTP which is received through SMS. It changes every time a user logs in. According to the report, the data theft took place on October 30, 2020. The management of Big Basket has been informed about this.
Users' financial details are secure
"We received a report of data theft a few days ago," Big Basket said. We met with a cyber security expert to find out how big this data theft is and how much truth there is in it. The cyber cell has also lodged a complaint in Bangalore. Efforts are on to nab the culprits. Customer privacy and security is our priority. We do not store their financial data, so it is secure.
Funding of a Chinese company in the Big Basket
The Big Basket is funded by Chinese company Alibaba, Mirai Asset Never Asia Growth Fund and the British government's CDC Group. The company has been in talks with new investors recently. Big Basket is trying to make 350-400 million in revenue. The company is in talks with the Singapore government's Temasek, US Fidelity and Tiborn Capital for funding.
