 Signals 1 to 12 are being erected over the harbor due to hurricanes coming from the sea or strong winds blowing on the shore. Based on which the pilot of the boat, steamer, ship in the sea knows how crazy the sea will become.

Different types of signals are placed on the port due to hurricanes coming from the sea or strong winds blowing on the shore. Depending on the speed of the wind blowing along the coast, different number of signals are placed on the port. In which signals numbered 1 to 12 in particular are being applied. Based on which the pilot of the boat, steamer, ship in the sea knows how crazy the sea will become. The intensity of the hurricane is expected to increase as the number of signals increases.


Know when? What number signal is applied?


Signal No.-01

A number one signal is applied when the wind speed is one to five kilometers. The wind is not very severe.


Signal No.-02

When the wind speed is blowing at a speed of 6 to 12 kmph, signal number 2 is placed on the harbor.


Signal No.-03

This type of signal is applied when the wind speed is 13 to 20 kmph.


Signal No.-04

Signal number four is applied when the wind is blowing at a speed of 21 to 29 kmph along the coast.


Signal number-05

Signal number five is applied to the port when the wind speed is 30 to 39 kmph.


Signal No.-06

When the sea speed is 40 to 49 kmph, the alarm signal number 6 is placed on the port.


Signal No.-07

When the wind speed is 50 to 61 kmph, signal number seven is applied to the port.


Signal No.-08

When the wind speed blowing at sea or on the coast is between 62 to 74 kmph, the alarm signal number eight is placed on the port.


Signal No.-09

When the wind speed is between 75 and 88 kmph, a warning signal number 09 is placed on the port.


Signal number-10

Signal number 10 is applied to the port when the wind speed blowing in the sea is more than 89 but up to 102 kmph.


Signal No.-11

The speed of stormy winds blowing in the sea is from 103 to 118 kmph. When the wind is blowing at such a speed, signal number 11 is placed on the port.


Signal No.-12

When the wind speed is 119 to 220 kmph, signal number 12 is applied to the port.

Most of the signals up to number 11 are used in India. Sometimes the number 12 signal is applied. In 1946, considering the wind speed, it was decided to have a total of 17 signals. But most of the time the warning signal is used up to 12 numbers. In India, only signals up to number 11 are generally used.
