New Delhi: After Geo made a splash in the telecom sector and Geo Fiber in the broadband market, Reliance is now working on making the cheapest 5G smartphone for Indians priced at less than Rs 5,000. If Reliance's effort pays off, the Indian smartphone market will explode. The company also said that initially it will be priced at around Rs 5,000, but later it will be priced at Rs 2,500 or Rs 3,000 depending on demand and sales.

20 crore user target
A Reliance official said the company was targeting 200 million phone users and was working on a 5G smartphone plan for it. Currently these users have a basic 2G phone. In fact the internet has become the biggest need of the present time, in which Reliance is working directly on the option of cheap 5G smartphones for the people. Currently, the price of 5G smartphones is very high in India and the 5G network has not even started in India.
Get the operating system from Microsoft!
Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, had said during the 43rd AGM in recent days that the US tech company would join hands with Reliance to develop a cheaper Android smartphone operating system. It is believed that Microsoft will be used to build the operating system for Reliance's cheap 5G smartphone. Currently, the Government of India has not allotted 5G network in the country. Reliance has sought government approval for testing of the 5G network.

The company has also come up with JioPhone 2, which is priced at Rs 2,999.
