The country's first hydrogen fuel cell car has been successfully tested and will be able to cover a distance of up to 250 kmph at a speed of 65 kmph.

The car has been developed by the Pune based Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and KPIT.
The trial battery is carried out on an electric passenger car platform with a fuel cell stack attached.
The trial of the country's first hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) car has been successful. The car has been developed by the Pune based Multinational Corporation (MNC) Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and KPIT. Vehicle fuel cell is a low temperature proton exchange membrane (PEM) type fuel cell, which operates at 65-75 degrees centigrade. This is suitable for driving.

This technology will benefit buses and trucks
CSIR and KPIT have successfully built 10 kWe automotive grade LT-PEMFC. The trial was conducted on a battery-electric passenger car platform with a fuel cell stack attached. However, it is believed that this technology is more suitable for commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks.
The battery electric bus / truck needs a larger battery to get the required operating range, while HFC technology requires a smaller battery for a longer operating range. Therefore, the HFC technology CV segment seems more promising. This fuel cell vehicle is equipped with a Type 3 commercial hydrogen tank.

Range up to 250km
Its capacity is to store about 1.75 kg H2. The car can cover a distance of 250 km on Indian roads at a speed of 60-65 km per hour. This complete fuel cell stack and power train related equipment is traditionally attached to a 5 seater sedan.

Will help reduce pollution
KPIT Chairman Ravi Pandit said that the future of this technology is better and it will be commercially better as it develops on its own. This is going to be a very important technology for Marat, which will not only reduce pollution but also reduce the import of fossil fuels.
