Maharashtra hikes 7th pay commission DA
The Government of Maharashtra has hiked the dearness allowance (DA) in effect from 1 August. Maharashtra has become the second state after Chhattisgarh to hike the dearness allowance. The DA will increase by 3% for Maharashtra Government employees.
Change in calculation of DA in 7th Pay Commission
The Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Central Government recently revised the formula for calculating the Dearness Allowance of central government employees under the 7th Pay Commission. The Wage Rate Index (WRI) will have a new base year of 2016=100 instead of the previous 1963-1965. The revision in base year was done by the National Statistical Commission in order to increase the performance of the index and to widen its range. This was done on the recommendation of the International Labor Organisation (ILO).

There was good news for nearly 52 lakh central government employees last month Government of India announced that the central government servants (CGS) will be given full full Dearness Allowance (DA) benefit. Anurag Thakur, the Minister of State (MoS) for Finance said in an announcement in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The MoS Finance said the DA benefit will be given from 1st July 2021.

Government statement on 7th Pay Commission basic pay
The Central Government responded to a question of the basic pay being Rs.18,460 for employees who had been promoted under the 6th Pay Commission between 1 January 2006 to 29 August 2006 from a grade of Rs.4200 to a grade of Rs.4600. The salary of these applicants was decided to be fixed as per Rule 11 of CCS(RP) 2008. Employees, as per CCS(RP) Rules 2008, also have the option of having a fixed salary with effect from 1 January 2006 referencing the lower post scale which was held as of 1 January 2006, or from the promotion date after 1 January 2006 where the pay would be fixed referencing the higher pay scale of the Fitment Table with no entitlement to arrears of pay from 1 January 2006 till the option choosing date. As per the 7th Pay Commission rules, a new employee to the central government at the entry-level grade would have a salary of Rs.18,000 per month.
