Navratri is an important festival celebrated in the United States. 'Navratri' is a festival celebrated to worship the mother divine or feminine energy embodied by Ma Durga. It is literally translated as ‘nine nights’ of devotion. This festival is as much about spirituality and religious connect as it is about celebration through song, music and dance. The latter is the most popular part of the festival in the U.S. as it sees the participation of people from all ages. Though the festival involves rituals of puja and fasting, some choose to do only partial fasting with fruits and ‘vrat’ food or ‘fasting menu’.

Sharad Navratri 2022 or Maha Navratri is commonly celebrated during the Indian month of Ashvina that commences from the first day of the lunar fortnight. As per the English calendar, it usually falls in the months of September and October.

The Festival is celebrated for nine nights and devotees pray, take part in the Dandiya Raas and Garba and offer prasad to please Goddess Durga.

Durga Puja is celebrated from the sixth day of Navaratri. This will continue for 4 days and then end with Vijayadashmi.
