Don't scan anyone's QR code without thinking, it may empty your bank account
State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest bank, has warned its customers against online fraud. The bank told customers that if you get a QR code from anyone else, don't scan it by mistake. Money may disappear from your account if you do this.
How does a QR code cause bank fraud?
The SBI has also shared a video on the social media site to show that a QR code sent by someone can empty your bank account. It states that the QR code is always used to make payments, not to receive payments. So never scan the QR code in the name of receiving payment. This could empty your account.
State Bank of India wrote in a tweet that when you scan a QR code, you do not get paid. All you get is a message that your bank account X amount has been debited, don't scan the QR code shared by anyone until you have to make a payment.
You don’t receive money when you scan a QR code. All you get is a message that your bank account is debited for an ‘X’ amount. Do not scan #QRCodes shared by anyone unless the objective is to pay. Stay alert. #StaySafe. https://t.co/EXGQB7YFT9#QRCodes #InternetBanking
